Need a Quick & Inexpensive Baby Gift? {My Taggie Blanket Tutorial}

There are so many babies being born around me right now!  So exciting, but that means LOTS of gifts to give and that can get expensive.  

My solution? 

I love giving handmade gifts and one of my favorite gifts to give is Taggie Blankets.

These are so easy to make!

Items Needed:

Scissors

Ribbon

Fabric

Pins

Thread

Sewing Machine

Plastic Bag or other krinkly material

Step 1:  Cut two squares of fabric the same size.  I usually make mine about 8--10" square.  This will be the front and back of your blanket.  I like to use terry cloth or flannel because it is soft for babies.  In this tutorial, I am using terry cloth.

Step 2: Cut ribbon in lengths of about 2-3".  I use a variety of ribbon so it is interesting for baby to touch and see.  

Step 3:  Fold ribbon lengths in half and pin to one square of fabric with the loop end of the folded ribbon facing inward.  (Be sure to pin with ends of pins facing the outer part of the square so they can easily be removed.  In this picture, I accidently pinned a few facing inward.  It can still work, but it is more difficult to remove the pins.)

Step 4:  Place the other square of fabric on top of the pinned ribbons and pin down.

Step 5:  Sew around the square leaving a 2" hole for turning right side out.  If this hole interferes with one of your ribbons, just remove that ribbon and insert during step 8. Remove all pins.

Step 6:  Turn right side out.  

Step 7:  Cut plastic bags in squares the same size as you cut your fabric and insert the pieces into the square. 

Step 8:  Turn edges of hole towards the inside and sew closed.  (If you had to remove a ribbon for the hold in step 5, stick in in and sew it closed.

Step 6:  Press edges for a cleaner finish and top stitch about a 1/4" inside the square.  You're done!

Pair this with an appliqued onesie and 

you have a perfect gift made with love!

Framed Bow Holder Tutorial

What to do with all these bows! 

We love bows in our house!  Unless we have a bow on Elizabeth, everyday there is at least one person who says "What a handsome boy you have there!"  Seriously???

Today, I am showing you an easy tutorial to do a framed bow holder to organize all those bows.

Supplies:
Picture Frame
Fabric
Ribbon
Glue Gun
Scissors

Step 1:  Take frame apart.  Discard glass (or save for another project).  If there is a piece of cardboard in between the glass and the backing of the frame, save it to use for this project.  If not, cut a piece of cardboard to fit inside the frame.  An easy way to do this is trace the piece of glass.

Step 2:  Wrap the cardboard with fabric and hot glue.

Step 3:  Cut ribbon in lengths long enough to wrap around the edges of your fabric covered board.  Place the ribbon where you like them on your fabric board and glue ends to the back.

Step 4:  Place in the frame and cover with the backing.

Step 5:  You're done!

Empty Wall Space?

Do you have an empty wall that is screaming at you to put something on it?  I did.

But now, it looks like this!

This was so easy and quick!  I found these frames at Dollar Tree a few weeks ago.  They actually were from Walmart, but somehow Dollar Tree got ahold of them.  I loved how their simplicity and the fact that they were matted.  I printed up some pics of our daughter on snapfish.  The hardest part was waiting for my pictures to come in the mail! 

Once I got my hands of the pictures, I just put them in the frames, figured spacing and nailed the ribbon into place.  That's it!

Valentine's Day Gifts

I was trying to come up with a little gift for the grandparents for Valentine's Day from us and Elizabeth. Grandparents always love pictures of their granddaughter, so I knew I wanted to incorporate pictures. Then it hit me! I remembered an idea that I saw on Little Birdie Secrets blog.... Photo blocks!

Here is my version....

These are such a nice (and inexpensive) gift. All you need is a few supplies, a little time, and a little creativity.
